Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with golden lacquer. Kintsugi artisans honor broken objects' histories with stunning repairs rather than throwing them away.
This is Broken and Beautiful: A Game About Kintsugi.
2-4 players draft cards like cups, teapots, bowls, and vases to create sets for scoring points. Some pieces will inevitably break and players can influence which pieces those might be. If a piece is broken it is worth nothing. A piece that you can put back together with gold has a greater value than it did when it was new.
Players choose two cards each turn, drafting once in each direction. The cards chosen both assemble scoring sets and cleverly influence which types of pottery will break. The game mechanics encapsulate the kintsugi philosophy, showing how the best game mechanics emerge from singular themes.
This beautiful game is now available at both Atlantis locations in Portsmouth and Norfolk, and is also available on our online store.
