Employee Feature: Final Girl

You are the last girl standing… Many of your fellow campers are dead and you’ve been chased relentlessly by their killer through the dark woods and empty cabins, scavenging supplies and rescuing survivors… And now it’s time for the hunter to become the hunted…

Final Girl has swiftly won the hearts of many Atlantis associates and it’s not hard to see why. We’re huge fans of cult classic horror and board games with unique mechanics, and Final Girl checks both those boxes. This resource management and dice rolling game pits you against a Killer in a number of unique yet familiar locations as you look for scared survivors to rescue and search for anything that might get you the upper hand against your relentless stalker.

Each Girl, Killer, and location have unique abilities and strategies, and you’re able to mix and match them all so that no two games will be the same!

Final Girl — Van Ryder Games

Final Girl: The Haunting of Creech Manor

Gameplay is straightforward and simple, with a number of resources at your disposal. Each girl and Killer get a starting number of life, and if that life total is burned through, you run on ‘Adrenaline’ which grants you a bonus to your rolls. Action cards will enable you to navigate the map, recover health, and perform actions but all at the cost of time counters, so it’s imperative that you balance your time and actions. Be careful though! The dice aren’t always in your favor, and you can fail rolls, wasting some of your precious time counters.

Survivors are scattered across the map, and if you land on a space with survivors in them, you’re able to take up to two with you! Be wary though, for the killer could be blocking your exit and the survivors won’t follow you into a space shared with the killer. Rescuing survivors grants you bonuses as well! Rescue enough and your Final Girl will unlock her Ultimate ability, granting her a powerful permanent bonus for the rest of the game!

Items are placed in specific locations across the map, and each item will give you a leg up on the Killer. You might find a ranged weapon that allows you to attack the Killer from afar, or maybe an energy drink that will give you extra time counters! Be careful though, as you only have a limited number of equipped slots and can only change them once a new item is acquired or at the start of your upkeep phase. You can stash away as much as you like in your backpack though, so stock up on useful items for later!

You’re not the only one gathering your strength though. The Killer will roam the map, targeting either victims or the Final Girl herself. Certain actions will cause the Killer’s Bloodlust levels will rise as the game progresses, letting them move further and do more damage.Taking victims will also let the Killer gain Bloodlust levels, so it’s imperative that  you keep victims from the Killer’s grasp, especially as each Killer has their own powerful abilities that trigger as their Bloodlust levels rise.

Events will also take place as the game progresses, triggered by the Killer’s Terror deck, and they can be anything from a cursed lake that kills any victim that enters it, to Starcrossed lovers dying together. They’ll always make the game much more interesting and unique, giving either you or the Killer the upper hand. Victims may panic if they see one of their friends fall to the Killer, and they may flee from them, giving you a chance to rescue more victims and gain a leg up on the Killer!

Lastly, no good horror movie would be complete without the Killer’s big finale. If the Killer runs out of actions to perform in their Terror deck, they gain a new and deadly action on their turns.

As you and the Killer hunt one another across the board, there’s no telling who could win and how quickly the tides will turn, leading to a tense and exciting experience like no other. We’re excited to share Final Girl with you, and this game can be picked up at either location, or here on our website.
